Origin Story / Overview
Introduce yourself.
I’m Kenneth Tovey y Melian and Narooma Pick Up and Drop Off/ Narooma Tours is my business. I live in a small country/ coastal town 6 hours drive south of Sydney. Total population 3300-> during summer/ tourist season the population swells to 30000!! I started giving lifts to friends that had a gut full of alcohol and needed to get home safely. From that spawned the idea of doing this commercially. The town didn’t have a dedicated ride share business and one night I posted on the towns Facebook page that I will be doing lifts for people. 2 years later and I’m still at it. I look after everyone that wants to go out for dinner and have a few drinks as well as anyone needing a lift in and around the Eurobodala region. My reach is as far north as Sydney and as far south as Eden. I love what I do and people are so greatful for it. I also do tours for tourists that visit the town. I take them to the numerous look out spots and give them a running commentary of what things are, Where they are and what they signify. Lots of fun.
What inspired this venture?
The fact that there was no dedicated taxi service in the town. I was already doing it for my mates and I thought to myself self, “ why don’t I do it for the rest of the town.”
What do you hope younger family members learn from your story?
That nothing is impossible. All I did was come up with a name and advertising and it went from there. Be brave. Be bold. If at first you fail, pick yourself up and try again.
Lessons & Advice
What principle has shaped your success?
Just pushing through. Times might be tough but don’t let that bring you down. Change, adapt and pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again
Advice for the next generation.
Be bold. Be brave. Don’t let one negative aspect define your attempt.

Speed Round
Walk us through a slice of your routine.
Cleaning the car and getting good coffee. I’m part of the furniture at my local coffee shop.
Share a challenge you've overcome.
Dealing with competition. I now have 2 services to compete with. One guy charges astronomical rates and the other guy is actually a taxi.
Share a small win.
Being accepted into the wider community since I moved to Narooma 6 years ago. I feel like I’m part of the town and the townsfolk are grateful for what I do for them.
